As part of the genus Lilium, lilies are herb flowery plants growing from bulbs. Their beautiful appearance makes them often found in agricultural fairs. Some species are even edible.
Though varies in color and flower shape, lilies generally have lance-shaped leaves, long upright stems and beautiful trumpet-shaped fragrant flowers. There are around 110 species of them. The most well-known are lemon lily, annunciation lily, royal lily, bamboo lily and bulbil lily. However, some so-called “lilies” in English, such as calla lilies, are not the true lilies. They are not even related to the true lilies.
Known as garden aristocrats, lilies are actually strong, tough plants. They can grow wild on warm regions throughout the globe. Wherever exposed to at least 6 hours of daily sunshine, they can grow healthy.
